Books & DVDs explore your topic in depth--
  • Begin with a keyword search —combine terms if desired; refine terms as needed
  • Topic VS Discipline—
    • A TOPIC is social problem, historical event, person, etc.
    • A DISCIPLINE is specific area of study with standards & methods such as math, psychology, medicine, etc.
    • Your TOPIC can span many DISCIPLINES--find all relevant materials by searching the MCCC Library web site
  • Use portions or all of a book or video for information
    • Use the Table of Contents and Index to locate chapters and/or portions of a book or DVD relevant to your research topic
    • Realize that each book or DVD has a unique editorial point of view
    • You may need several books or DVDs for a research project

  • Use drop down boxes as needed
  • Print the book/DVD page for citation info

  • Use Boolean operators as needed
  • Click on Search
  • Browse search results
  • Refine search results using facets in left frame
  • Evaluate new search results & select a title
  • Click on ebook title to open
  • Click on Read Online link for chapters
  • Download Chapters as needed
  • Note restrictions indicated
  • Click on Cite Book icon for citation
    • Select desired citation style
    • Copy & print citation as needed
