  • Ask your instructor
  • Recommendations by trusted sources, such as an expert or specific library databases
  • Specialized search engines
  • No Wikipedia (unless your instructor specifically approves)

Evaluate your Other Internet Sources

Evaluate using ARC (MeL Information Literacy Top 3 Basics)

A--Author Authority

  • Who wrote it?
  • Who published it?
  • What authority do they have on the subject?

R--Relevance

  • Are multiple perspectives on an issue represented?
  • Is persuasive or emotional language used?
  • What does the domain ending tell us about intentions (.org, .com, .edu, etc.)?

C--Currency

  • When was it written?
  • Does the date written affect the value or accuracy of the information?
