Books, DVDs, articles and more--
  • Begin with a keyword search—combine terms if desired; refine terms as needed
  • Topic VS Discipline—
    • A TOPIC is social problem, historical event, person, etc.
    • A DISCIPLINE is specific area of study with standards & methods such as math, psychology, medicine, etc.
    • Your TOPIC can span many DISCIPLINES--find all relevant materials by searching the MCCC Library web site
  • Limit to books or e-books with the facets--use portions or all of a book for information
    • Use the Table of Contents and Index to locate relevant chapters and/or portions of a book
    • Realize that each book or e-book has a unique editorial point of view
    • You may need several books or e-books for a research project

 

Enter your terms in Search Box, click on SEARCH
  • Enter author, title, keyword or subject terms
  • Use Boolean operators if needed

 

Click on a title in the results list--
  • Note availability and call number
  • Also note format of print or electronic
  • Limit results with facets in left frame if desired
    • Books or e-books
    • Years of publication
  • SIGN IN using the button, upper right
    • Login & Password are your college credentials
    • Note: use this same sign-on credentials for off campus access to the databases & Lib Guides
  • SAVE individual items using the button above the title
    • Print the SAVED ITEMS as needed
    • Create a well named LIST if you wish to save items for future reference
  • Click on VIEW ITEMS link top left of the page to return to your search
  • See a librarian if you have any questions
